Why to invest in land

Land is scarce -> its easy to buy a piece of land --> the prices will always go up-->you can use land either to build house--> to do farming-->to build commercial ventures-->give it for development to builders-->sell it for a higher price and on and on on.....

There are plenty of reasons to convince a person that buying land is one of the best investment decision. We have seen since our childhood how the cities in which we live in have developed. I don't think any one would deny that there are many places in the town/city where a person spent his/her life had patches of desert, places which would be far to reach with little transport but in few years have become populated. Anyone can guess the returns the land would have given to its owners. And always we hear this story that "You know this piece of land was at X price per feet few years back and now its 5X or 10X or even 20X". That's true unlike other investment the prices for land will eventually go only in one direction that is "North".
